C.R.A.F.T.: Supporting Loved Ones with Addiction in Colorado Springs
Written by Rebecca Cota, MA, NLC
What is C.R.A.F.T.?
CRAFT stands for Community Reinforcement and Family Training and was developed by Dr. Robert Meyers. It is a researched based, educational, and supportive method that teaches strategies and harm reduction to be a positive support for people suffering from Substance Use Disorder. The facilitators are peers in family recovery, creating a space where everyone is learning from their shared experiences.
In CRAFT, you will learn to walk with your loved ones at any stage of their journey towards recovery (whatever that may look like) to foster change, not conflict. Participants learn to not unintentionally reinforce the substance use and instead support clean and sober behavior through solution-oriented communication and allowing natural consequences to happen when appropriate. CRAFT also focuses on prioritizing the self-care of the family member, encouraging them to improve their quality of life by learning where it is beneficial to focus their energies to help their loved ones.
Come and join our community. If you have tried everything else, don’t give up hope. We can help.
